LOOK AT THE PEOPLE! The New Objectivity "Type" Portrait in the Weimar Period (EN)
SIEH DIR DIE MENSCHEN AN!– Das neusachliche Typenportrait in der Weimarer Zeit (DE)
The exhibition focuses on portraits in the historical context of the Weimar era (1918-1933). Artists such as Jeanne Mammen, Hanna Nagel, Otto Dix and George Grosz give contour to societal types like the "New Woman" or the "Worker" in their artworks.I was asked to develop an exhibition design for texts and historical documents that accompany the artworks. This second layer unveils the emerging stereotypes of early 20th century popular science and pop culture, highlighting a mutual influence with the artworks. Texts are placed in the space, while panels on the walls display books, quotes, and materials.
The first edition of the show was on view at Kunstmuseum Stuttgart from 2 December 2023 to 14 April 2024.
The second followed at Museum Gunzenhauser, where it ran from 12 May to 1 September 2024.
